World and russian rare-earth metals and compounds market 2013

The present report focuses on the analysis of all elements of the rare earth metals and their compounds. In this study, some individually identifiable data on rare earth metals (REM): gadolinium, holmium, dysprosium, europium, ytterbium, yttrium, lanthanum, lutetium, misch metal, neodymium, praseodymium, samarium, scandium, terbium, thulium, cesium, cerium, erbium and other metals and compounds. The study examines the main characteristics of the rare earth metals market including these elements, and a number of other elements according to segmentation, evaluation of global and Russian production, the world and the Russian trade and price analysis. The report includes a description of the dynamics of the markets in 2008 - 2012, is their structure. Most of the rare earth metals are trading on a nomenclature of foreign economic activity. Group of analysts METALRESEARCH worked to release a group of all the elements in the primary data of Russia. As part of the review of the market of the Russian Federation considered separately metals: lanthanum, cerium, neodymium, gadolinium, yttrium, europium, dysprosium, misch metal, scandium, terbium, holmium, samarium, erbium, praseodymium, terbium, thulium, lutetium, cesium.

Overview of the global divided into two parts: the World Market and Russian Market. In describing the structure of the world market is mainly data by country, which includes a description of the world's rare earth production, and trade on major countries, and prediction and evaluation of current consumption. Also in the description section of the world market prices of listed Chinese REM and prices of vendors and customers from different countries. In the address lists are also global companies: of vendors and purchasing companies. Data on the world market are mainly 2008 and 2012 reporting years. Also on the world market has forecast of production and consumption of REM 2016.

In the description given of the Russian market as a whole the production of rare earth metals, rare earth metals trade in volume terms for countries and companies of the Russian Federation, as well as products and the specific metals. The prices of Russian companies, buyers and exporters by products and metals. In addition to the analysis of the Russian market there are also lists of companies targeted buyers and sellers for 2011-2012, by products and metals. As a whole as part of a study on the market of Russia contains data for 2008 - 2012, and estimates for 2013.

The review will be useful primarily to companies listed in the survey, companies that produce raw materials with the content of the metal, the enterprises have the capacity to produce rare earth metals and compounds, companies whose activities may be affected by this report: equipment suppliers, buyers, manufacturers of products at higher stages.

The study was conducted in april 2013.
Volume of the report - 124 pages.
The report contains 68 tables and 16 charts and graphs.
Report language – Russian. This report translated from Russian in English.

WORLD RARE-EARTH METALS MARKET ANALYSIS 2013

Mineral resources of Rare-earth metals

Despite the similarity of common classifications should be noted that mineral reserves and resources from different sources (countries) can otsnivayutsya differently, in connection with the use of different methods of calculation.

The main sources of rare earth minerals are bastnaesite (ftorokarbonat rare earth metals), monazite, Lapps and ion-absorption ores. But in the world there are only a small number of cost-effective for mining of these minerals. Most of the world's economic resources focused on rare metals deposits bastnezitovyh China share in the world 48%. Large resources of rare earths are also associated with monazite deposits in Australia, Brazil, China, India, Malaysia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Thailand and the United States. The remaining fields are associated with xenotime, ion-absorption ores loparite, phosphate, apatite, secondary monazite, eudialyte, cheralita and liquid waste products of uranium. Note also that the large resources of REM occur in Russia, in the amount of 22% of the world.

World rare-earth metals mining

Rare earth industry is divided into mining and sectors related to the processing of natural raw materials and the production of intermediate and refined products, with mixed and separated (individual) rare earth metals.

For the production of concentrates containing 60-70% of mixed rare earth extracted ore is usually processed using flotation technology and technology division. Of concentrates can be produced intermediate products, such as mixed chlorides of rare earth metals, which are usually the starting point in the simplest separation technologies - solvent extraction. Distinguish and separate from each other lanthanides is very difficult. In view of the similarity of metals division originally made into subgroups, which are then disconnected to individual elements by further extraction of the solution. Individual rare earths are usually precipitated as oxalates, which are burned to produce oxides. Very high purity oxides can be achieved with the use of ion-exchange technology.

World mining of rare earths in the last fifteen years has grown at a very fast pace. From 1990 to 2004, it increased by about half - from 53.2 to 102.0 thousand tons in 2009 g.dobycha earth metals assessment USGS, including Russia totaled 131.3 thousand tons. In 2010-2011, the production of rare-earth metals increased by 3% per year. In 2012, China again led the decline in global oil REM, despite the increase vnekitayskogo production by 3% to 112.6 thousand tons.

Processed rare earth products are manufactured in several other European countries. Thus, in Austria is based is one of the main and oldest European producers - the company Treibacher Auermet Produktions GmbH (TAU), producing rare earth metals and their oxides. Reported that the TAU has acquired the assets of British company Meldform Rare Earth Ltd, in order to expand its customer base. Estonian company AS Silmet processes intermediate rare earth raw materials from Russia.

Measures the Chinese government to improve the economic state of the industry and the conservative-vatsii REE reserves taken in mid-2010, again gave a temporary effect. By July 2011, it became clear that the quotas issued to the entire year 2011, the majority of enterprises are already in use, and no one is going to stop production. With the significant restrictions on exports that led to the formation of huge stocks of unsold goods in warehouses manufacturers. According to various estimates, by the end of Q3 2011, inventories amounted to 60 to 90 kt

Rare-earth metals and compounds trade

Trade volumes rare earth metals in the total world trade is 16%. The remaining 84% are compounds of rare earth metals. In 2012, according to the UN Comtarade, as well as the data of customs committees of some countries in the world (according to the list), the global trade in rare earth metals and compounds of rare-earth metals in real terms fell by 18% to 64.9 tonnes. It should be noted that this figure as well as all trade indicators (import and export) is calculated and shown on the weight of products, and not by weight of rare earth metals or their oxides. Trade volumes REM in money terms in 2012 decreased by 50% to 2.661 mln., Which can speak not only to reduce the volume of trade, but also lower prices traded metals. A reduction of trade in terms of money can talk about replacing the more expensive metals trade, trade cheaper and lower percent of the content of metals in the traded products.

World rare-earth compounds import and export

It should be noted that in 2012, according to the ITC (International Trade Centre) uses and compounds of rare-earth metals in real terms fell by 23% to 54.1 tonnes The main countries engaged in the purchase of the REM on the world market are the following: the U.S. share of world imports 18%, Japan with a share of 18%, France with a share of 10%. Notable countries buyers of rare-earth metals are Estonia, Germany, Malaysia, Korea (Republic of), Chinese Taipei, China, and other countries. Russian importer of rare earth compounds takes a middle position. Note that in 2012 Russia has reduced the import REM compounds by 10% to 199 tonnes.

It should be noted that in 2012, according to the ITC (International Trade Centre) uses and compounds of rare-earth metals in monetary terms has declined by 52% to $ 2 billion. The main exporters of rare-earth compounds are China, with a share of overall exports of 33%, Japan with a share of 11% of world exports, France with a share of 10% of world exports. Major exporters of these compounds are also Russia with a share of 9% of world exports, Chinese Taipei with a share of 6%, Estonia with a share of 6% and the U.S. with a share of 6%. Notable exporters REM compounds are Hong Kong, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Korea (Republic of), and other countries. Together, these countries exported in 2012 more than 90% of compounds of rare-earth metals.
